Atlas & Errant

A cartography atelier. We survey the ground you love — real or otherwise — and render it in ink, one contour at a time.

Commissions

Three ways to be mapped

Every commission begins with a walk, a story, or a memory. What follows is weeks of pen work, cross-hatching, and correction — never a plotter, never a filter.

Tier One

The Estate

A property surveyed and rendered as it truly sits — boundary hedges, the old orchard, the well nobody uses anymore. Framed for the hall.

From £680 · 5–6 weeks
Tier Two

The Voyage

Your route, drawn as expedition: the coast road, the crossing, the town where the car broke down. We plot it like a 17th-century survey log.

From £1,150 · 7–9 weeks
Tier Three

Imaginary Lands

The world in your novel, your campaign, your child's bedtime story — given coastlines, mountain ranges, and a name for every cove. We ask you a hundred questions before we draw a single line.

From £1,900 · 10–14 weeks

Process

How a map gets made

Slow, on purpose. A map rushed looks like a map rushed.

01

The Interview

An hour on the phone or across a table. We want the names of things — the creek, the ridge, the name your family calls the hill that isn't on any official map.

02

The Survey

Satellite reference, old plats, your own sketches, and — where we can manage it — a site visit with a notebook and a compass.

03

Pencil Draft

A full-scale graphite layout for your approval. This is the last stage where the coastline can still move.

04

Ink & Hatch

Nib pens, walnut ink, weeks of cross-hatching for the mountains. No two ranges are drawn the same way twice.

05

Lettering

Every place name hand-set in a script chosen for your map's temperament, then inked freehand along the contour.

06

Delivery

Archival scan, a fine art print, and — always — the original, rolled in a mailing tube with a wax seal.
